Can you ever imagine living without the internet in your midst? I'm mostly sure that doing business and recreation will never be the same once we depart from this tradition in technology. Internet teaches us to be dependent with one another, to communicate with each other despite the distance. And domain names make these all conceivable. If you're wondering why, then it's time we learn from our Chinese neighbors.
The Chinese have never been this much aware that they ranked at the top sixth spot when it comes to domain name registration. Dot-cn is a top-level domain name, has now over one million domain names registered. But the total Chinese registration breaks a record of over 2.6 million domain names. Each year, this stat seems to increase. The Chinese are some of the busiest people on Earth. Their busy with their businesses, careers and their family relationships. Everyday we hear the latest news about the overall status of domain names. Don't you get excited at how these web names have become a staple in Internet. Today, domain names are quite an investment. People break their backs just to purchase the best domain name that can suit their needs. Just recently, I posted about ICANN voting off the proposal of a .XXX domain name. This porno domain name or whatever they call, it has to go.
Another interesting move from ICANN, this time the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers said yes to another top-level domain-- .tel. Telnic, which is a domain registry in UK gets to bag the new TLD after it has applied for its approval with ICANN. Telnic is expecting that dot-tel will be a good come on for VoIP providers and networks who are in no time expected to dominate the market. Now, purchasers can choose a dot-tel in order to provide their customers necessary information and update on the latest company offerings on the Internet. At this point, Telnic has not yet opened it's doors for pre-registration or reservations.

Since the massive outbreak for registering Internet domain-names, acting as real legal users for their web addresses and not as simple speculators is the new move of business and personal computer users. Well if this phenomenon be compared to an epidemic, I think it will be safe to say that this is one great incurable disease infecting most computer wizards and addicts. But this specie of illness is good though, as long as the domain-names will registered legitimately on the right and authorized places.
Spanning at least a decade in its existence, over a billion of new domain names under the .com and the .net category were registered. This leads to shortage in domain-name choices triggering crimes such as illegal transfer or use of domain names and hacking which is anonymous to the registrar or domain owners. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) initiated sufficient measures to protect domain users against foul play, requiring anyone who wants to change their domain name to furnish a copy of valid identification or submit a form of the Initial Registration for Registrar Transfer. However the glitch with this rule is that notification of the original owner by the registrar or the would-be owner of the name is not compulsory, leaving more registrar threatened that they might lose rights to the name without their knowledge. The best way to protect property rights over the domain name is to lock it down and check it with ICANN if you have doubts that yours being robbed.

If your domain name has expired, you can renew the domain at any web site that offers domain name registration. If the registrar is the same, then you won't have any problems but if it is different, you will have to repeat the same procedures you took when you transfer the domain name. It's really quite simple, but make sure that the e-mail address you used in the initial registration of your domain name is still available. This way, you can approve the transfer or renewal message because without it you the action will not be validated by the web site.
If you have no domain name yet, you can look up for expired domains and make them your own. There are thousands of email lists you can sign up for. There are also numerous web sites that put up lists on expired domain name on a daily basis. So pay a visit everyday and you'll see new names on that list that you can make into your own.
A better way to make sure that you can access expired domain names is by signing up to backorder domain names. By doing so, you place yourself in the waiting list for a domain name as soon as it expires and becomes available. Once it becomes available, the people on the list will be contacted and informed and you can purchase it if you want. Although there is no guarantee, you can increase your odds by putting yourself up to the list as early as you possibly can.

The lifecycle of a web domain may begin as a designer's concept then as an active domain for couple of years. As the expiration date approaches, the domain registrar sends notice of expiration. If the domain registrant does not reply within a given period of time, the domain may be inactivated. Then the domain registrant may renew his registration within few months covering a grace period.
If the domain registrant still does not respond for whatever reasons, then the domain will be deleted and reoffered to the public for bidding. You may check domain names through this public bidding. Domains should first be registered and available before you can purchase them.

Be in control of your domain name!
Domain names are easy to create. However naming domains, like finding names for insect species that number up to billions, can be really tricky. Dashes and other differentiating symbols are essential. "Maps-of-the-world.com" is a different website from "Maps-of-this-world.com." So take it easy on the domain names. Deliberate and before you submit a final decision, make sure you have done a domain check.
So how do you know if your domain is unique and available? Visit an online domain checking site. Input your domain name, your subdomain if available, and your extension code (maybe a country code). If your domain name is not one in a million, be creative! However make it as simple as possible so people would easily remember.
