As I have said before, domain reservation is important for your business because you wouldn't want anyone getting ahead of you, would you? So, if you have already thought of that name that you think would sell reserve it right away. Even if you don't have the money to run a web page yet. At least you already own the name and nobody has the right to use it anymore. It's like reserving a room in a hotel in Spain, you need to ensure that it will be available for you on your chosen time.

Cybersquatting in simplistic terms is buying or owning a domain name with the name of another person. Most "victims" of cybersquatters are people who are slow in registering and owning their own domains. Usually, domains owned by cybersquatters sport the names of popular icons, Hollywood celebrities, and members of the royal families. Recently, with the Hollywood baby boom, even the baby of controversial Tom Cruise has become victim of cybersquatting. Also, presidential and other political figures are also targets of cybersquatting. But they cannot do anything about it, because the laws on domain name registration are very fluid and possess many loopholes. Basically, anybody can register or invest in a domain name, regardless whether he owns the name or not. This makes for a perfect business opportunity.
I'm not telling you to do this nor am I endorsing that you make this your business. Let's just say that I am exploring possibilities. First, the cybersquatting law only considers your domain name illegal if it constitutes trademark infringement or if you do it with the intention of boosting your sales. So unless the name of that celeb baby or candidate is not trademarked or if you don't use the site to sell a product, there is nothing they can charge you with. That is why the domain names are selling like hot cakes; they're like real estate. The trick is to buy a domain, register it with a variation of a famous person's name, and just own it. There are free domain registration online that you need not shell out big bucks for this. Just own it; you don't have to put anything on it. When that particular famous person realizes that he can't own a domain name after his name, he would track you down and buy the site from you. Which of course, depends, if you consent to do so.
It might be a good idea to use names of the kids with fame-obsessed and egotistical parents. Say, like starlets and has-beens who think they still have a career. They may be mortified that you're using their names and riding on their imagined fame that they buy you out in no time. Again, as much as this seems to be a good business, I am not endorsing this... just exploring possibilities.

Nowadays, people sell domain names like they sell stocks. You would wonder why I chose to make such a comparison. There are millions of domain names that may be considered desirable to have. However, some people buy them, but don't use them for their intended purpose. Individuals and companies sell these domain names to earn profit. They sell them like hot commodities... just like stocks. It's no wonder why good domain names are very hard to come by.
The five day grace period given to registrars lead to a very ugly practice of domain tasting or traffic testing. This means that a registrar can register his domain name paying every fee necessary and then he can back-out from his registration within five days with full refund if the amount of traffic or income has not reached a certain threshold. These domain names include previously expired or deleted domain names.
This practice very much contradicts the original purpose for which this five day grace period was set up. It's real intention is to allow the registrar to correct typo errors. In addition, it was also used to delete attempts for fraud registrations. This bad practice continues because no policy from the ICANN prohibits it.

After giving birth to her first biological child with actor Brad Pitt, actress and UN ambassadress Angelina Jolie has reserved 24 domain names that feature different name versions of her daughter Shiloh Nouvel. Files on internet registration showed that on the baby girl's birthday last May 28, web adresses were reserved including shilohpitt, shilohjolie, shilohjoliepitt, shilohnouvelpitt, shilohnouveljoliepitt and shilohnouveljolie having extensions .com, .org, .net, and .info.
Jolie's lawyer made the reservations. Jolie, therefore, has one-year control of the reserved domain names. The hot couple, Pitt and Jolie have learned their lessons from a fellow Hollywood couple – Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. The two got a domain name suricruise.com after their first biological child Suri. The site was not locked so it became an unauthorized site. In December of last year, the lawyers of Jolie, registered a site for Pitt and Jolie's adopted children – Maddox and Zahara, after Pitt decided to adopt the two children. The court then granted the adoption in January.
Domain names featuring the newborn babies of Hollywood celebrities are gaining ground in the domain name industry these days. Aside from Angelina Jolie - Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise – Katie Holmes, Britney Spears and hubby Kevin Federline also got their first child Sean Preston his own URL.

In a world like ours, the Internet is just one aspect that can easily hit by commercialization. Domain name disputes and debates over the use of trademark names continues to be one of its characteristics. The concept of reverse domain hijacking is the common practice of cyber squatters of acquiring domain names from owners by accusing them of violating trademarks rules and thereby demanding the transfers of these domain names.
But in the first place what trademark right does an owner have in the first place? We are all familiar with what a trademark is, right? Trademarks, in a nutshell, identify one product from the others through words, symbol or design. If a domain name is used as a trademark it has to be a source identifier for a particular website. In addition it must also be distinctive and not merely a generic or descriptive term. The remedy for people aggrieved by reverse domain is the ICANN policy called Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy. The policy allows the original domain name owner to disprove the interest or right of the current registrant on the hijacked domain name.

There is an increasing occurrence of domain name theft by unscrupulous web hackers and crooks who usually go out and prey on clean-handed internet users. These net users in turn know nothing about domain name security. It is because of this unlikelihood that domain registrars are becoming more and more vigilant in terms of domain safety and security.
In response to this alarming contingency, ICANN or Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers came up with the Domain Name Transfer Policy in 2004 to implement hard-nosed protective security against unauthorized transfers and to expedite choice in domain name registration. As a consequence, domain name registrars should be prompted to use a standard form of authorization that that provides for the clear-cut consent of the domain name registrant before the transfer process is initiated.
All registrars are now required to use a clear standardized form of authorization that provides for the clean-cut consent of the registrant before the process of domain name transfer. Through the use of the domain lock feature, customers can be assured that their domain names are not at risk from theft or hijacking. They also provide an easy way for customers to unlock their domain names whenever they want to move them.

Registration of domain name is one effective way to ensure unlimited internet access. In doing so, there are some questions that are asked frequently. These questions are enumerated herein and answers are also provided.
You might ask if domain names are long useful. Actually, such domain names are indeed useful especially if you are creating your own website. You may utilize the name of your company which did not match the limit of 23 characters. In this manner, your site is more accessible to prospected users. The second query concerns the characters that are allowed, as well capitalization. In this case, you may use the alphabet letters and numbers and suffixes like .net or .com. The issue of capitalization does not pose any threat at all even if you are re-registering.
Another thing that may bother you is the availability of your own domain when the name has been registered already and 'whois' lookup has been done. Well, you need not worry because within a day or two, the central registrar shall upgrade all accounts and no one can make use of your name. Finally, you may ask if you need to activate your website once you have registered your domain name. All you have to do is to reserve the name until such time that you want to activate your site. You can get rid of the complex transfer process of the domain name.

Domain names reservations are selling like hotcakes in the net. A great deal of people have manifested interest to acquire domain names for various reasons. Many individual and companies alike are sort of extorting domain names out rightly. Many of them do not even have the sole intention to develop websites. They simply wait for certain orders or requests for domain names and consequently, sell such names for huge fees.
This is a concrete example of hijacking domain names especially when a particular name is one of he few good ones that are left or reserved. If that is that case, you may bring it to the court provided that you can attest that a person who registered that name has no plan whatsoever to utilize it in developing site. At least, this will compensate for the huge amount of money of getting the name.
If you really want to acquire a particular domain name, there is no other quick way to possess it than to have the name reserved the moment the name expires. In this case, you must place backorder beforehand in order to secure it. By doing this, you can get rid of paying huge amount of money and battle in courts. In addition, you can develop you own website and enjoy the many benefits of fast internet access.
